Where do you go when you're sick of Krispy Kreme? Try Arnolds, Finland's favourite doughnut franchise, which opened its first Japan branch in May 2013. The Kichijoji shop has been doing a brisk trade so far, though you shouldn't have to queue for too long to get your hands on Arnolds specialities like their licorice and heart-shaped strawberry flavour doughnuts. Though they come heavily glazed, these treats aren't quite as sweet as they look – though they're large enough that you probably wouldn't want to eat more than one in a single sitting. Doughnuts start at ¥180, with a ¥1,120 assortment box (pictured) that's ideal if you're picking up a bulk load for your family or coworkers.
