This specialty shaved ice shop is a must-visit for serious kakigori fans who appreciate top-notch ingredients and meticulous attention to detail. Open year-round, Chap Tokyo operated out of a temporary space before moving into its permanent home in Ebisu in March 2025. While pricier than your average kakigori shop, it’s well worth the splurge thanks to its all-natural ingredients and house-made milks, creams and syrups that highlight the best seasonal produce.
One of Chap’s standout features is that you can choose the size of your kakigori (small, medium or large), making it easy to sample multiple flavours or simply order according to your appetite. The menu changes daily and is announced via the shop’s Instagram Stories, so it’s worth checking before you visit. Another unique touch is the ability to customise your milk base to complement your chosen flavour. Options include salt milk, rum milk and seasonal varieties, and if you’re unsure which to pick, the staff are happy to recommend the best pairing.
On our recent visit, we tried a seasonal apricot creation topped with honey yoghurt cream and mint, with layers of apricot tiramisu, cacao powder and a Grand Marnier milk base hidden inside. We also sampled the shop’s signature ‘Egg’ kakigori, which cleverly incorporates every part of an egg – from airy meringue made with egg whites to a rich cream made from yolks.
