This newly opened restaurant in Asakusa is conveniently located a few minutes’ walk from Asakusa Station and its surrounding attractions, including Sensoji Temple. Shunpudou specialises in ramen and gyukatsu (beef cutlets), and uses only halal-certified ingredients in all of its dishes, allowing anyone who follows a halal diet to enjoy Japanese cuisine without worries.
The spacious interior houses a mix of table and counter seating that can accommodate large groups of up to 60 if needed. Sofa seats line the large windows, creating a comfortable atmosphere for guests of all ages. After you’re seated, scan the QR code at your table to place your order.
Shunpudou’s clear, amber-coloured ramen broth is simmered for eight hours, creating the rich, layered flavour that serves as the foundation for the venue’s signature dish. The restaurant recommends the spicy ramen, topped with the highest-quality A5 wagyu beef, while lighter but equally umami-packed bowls featuring chicken- or miso-based broth are also popular, and vegan options are available.
For an even meatier dish, the gyukatsu is a must-try. Delightfully crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, the flavourful wagyu beef – again, the finest A5 grade – makes for a satisfying meal.
The side dishes are equally tasty. Choose from succulent gyoza, flavourful fried chicken or menchi-katsu (breaded fried meat patty), all of which are halal. As for drinks, the menu lists a wide variety of beverages ranging from premium Kyoto matcha to halal-certified beer.
Time Out tip: There’s a discreet prayer space located inside the venue, equipped with a prayer mat and special sink to aid with ablution. If you need to pray, feel free to ask the staff, who will direct you to the room.
