Time Out says

This humble kakigori shop spins out cups of shaved ice reminiscent of kakigori you’d receive at a summer festival, but with slightly elevated toppings. Shaved ice here is reasonably priced, with bowls costing just ¥500 or ¥600.

Opt for classic toppings like matcha, strawberry milk or Calpis, or try out seasonal specialities like sakura milk and mixed citrus with tons of fresh fruit. If you’ve got little ones in tow, or are just feeling nostalgic, we suggest ordering the classic rainbow flavour, just like what you’d get at a matsuri.

Kashiya’s kakigori are best enjoyed as you stroll the surrounding Shoinjinja neighbourhood – the shop functions mostly as a takeaway stand with just a few seats outside. Aside from shaved ice desserts, the shop also whips up anko (red bean paste) butter sandwiches and a number of drinks including matcha lattes, cocoa and hot or iced chai.
