Time Out says

After earning a loyal following through pop-ups in Ebisu, speciality tea house Kissa Nanashian opened its first permanent location in Azabudai in January 2025.

Stepping inside, what first comes into view is the interior, wrapped in deep navy blue that’s reminiscent of the ocean depths. Inside the wooden display cabinets are cup-and-saucer sets from prestigious brands including Royal Copenhagen, Wedgwood and Narumi. Guests are invited to choose their favourite set before enjoying their tea. The café's full teacup collection is also available to browse on its official website, making it easy to pick out a favourite before your visit.

The owner is such a devoted tea enthusiast that he regularly travels to countries where the teas are produced, like Sri Lanka. There, he personally evaluates the aroma, depth and finish of high-quality, certified-origin tea leaves before carefully selecting each one. The shop always stocks more than 10 varieties, including the Darjeeling Castleton Spring Harvest (¥1,310), as well as Assam and Keemun tea. By choosing not only your teacup but also the tea itself, there are endless possibilities to discover new favourites and broaden your own tastes.

The café's signature dessert, the Swan Lake Pudding (¥1,100), is an irresistible combination of a firm retro-style custard pudding topped with an adorable swan-shaped cream puff. It's the perfect companion to one of the house's fragrant teas.

Beyond tea and sweets, the menu also includes Japanese teas like sencha and hojicha, herbal infusions, pasta, sandwiches and alcoholic drinks. With wi-fi, power outlets and a thoughtfully designed space, Kissa Nanashian balances an immersive teahouse atmosphere with all the practical comforts of a modern café.
