This sleek café is a great spot to indulge in different varieties of matcha and coffee, with an interior that’s just as impressive as its drinks. The industrial-chic space feels as if it’s been carved out of the building, with striking boulders doubling as counters and chairs. The café will also open its second floor soon, adding more seating and space to enjoy your drinks.
On the tea side of things, Sabo offers five varieties of matcha sourced from farms in Aichi prefecture, available as a latte or pure matcha, either hot or iced. The selection ranges from the slightly bitter okumidori, which pairs well with milk, to light-bodied seimei, with its delicate jasmine notes. There’s also the popular, nutty samidori with a gentle umami flavour, as well as the more precious shin and kou varieties, which are both carefully handpicked and showcase the tea’s herbaceous notes.
Each matcha powder is available to buy in-store, making for a great souvenir. You can also pick up matcha-making essentials, including whisks and beautiful ceramic bowls from Toyama prefecture.
As for coffee, Sabo specialises in single-origin varieties from Colombia, offering light, floral and fruity profiles. The selection includes Sierra Nevada, with notes of orange peel and brown sugar, and Lusitania Geisha, which has hints of grapefruit and lemon candy. You can enjoy the coffee as a filter or latte, either hot or iced.
