Time Out says

This delectable import from Malaysia has finally opened a standalone shop in Tokyo, offering its famous vegan coconut-based gelato. The creamy gelato contains no preservatives, artificial colours or flavours, and all but one of the tempting flavours is completely vegan. The gelato is made from two simple ingredients – milk and coconut water  – with no additional coconut oil added in. The rich coconut flavour is the only non-vegan option, as it contains a hint of condensed milk for added richness.

Despite being made up of very few ingredients, the icy treat does not lack in flavour but allows you to taste the quality coconuts used. There are five flavours at Sangkaya, and you can have them in a cone or cup (medium ¥450, large ¥550). Choose from the original coconut, rich coconut, gula melaka (palm sugar), teh tarik (milk tea), or brown sugar from Okinawa's Iriomote island. For an additional ¥100, you can add on fruit puree toppings such as mango or strawberry.

Can’t make it out to Kichijoji? Sangkaya also has an online shop offering coconut gelato flavours not found in store (mango, we’re looking at you).
