Tokyo has a distinct lack of hawker centres, so this Singapore-style festival is very welcome in striking down inside Kinshicho's Olinas shopping centre for three days over Golden Week. Four Singapore-based restaurants will be setting up stalls to let you savour the best of Singaporean cuisine: these are satay specialist Jumain Sataysfaction, Wee Nam Kee Chicken Rice, Sin Tong Kee and Singapore Seafood Republic. We're particularly excited about Jumain's satay, which has yet to make it to Japan in restaurant form. Besides the heaps of mini-meat on sticks, you can dig into some Hainanese chicken rice, laksa and ice kacang (Singapore-style shaved ice) – there's almost enough to make you forget about your Kinshicho surroundings and trick you into believing you're actually in the Lion City.
