Having reopened in early autumn 2017 under new management, this longstanding Shirokane establishment definitely goes the extra mile. Stellato combines a flair for the dramatic – huge chandeliers, heavy draped curtains and an immodest faux-Moorish facade – with French-meets-Japanese cooking that is always interesting and frequently exceptional. Their wine selection is very good too, with some more unusual Japanese tipples on their list completing the Franco-Japanese alliance. The nicest touch is the rooftop lounge with a view of Tokyo Tower. The experience doesn't come cheap, but is surprisingly manageable for a restaurant of its calibre. Reservations are obligatory.
