The quirky concept of this retro Jingumae café is, as the name suggests, breakfasts from different countries around the world. There are three staple options available at all times. The full English breakfast, or fry-up, comes with scrambled eggs, baked beans, sausages, hash browns, cooked tomatoes, mushrooms and fried bread.
The American breakfast, on the other hand, is a plate of pancakes served with whipped butter and maple syrup alongside crispy bacon, fried potatoes and fried eggs. The Asian representative on the regular menu is from Taiwan and includes a pudding-like soy milk soup topped with yutiao (fried crullers) and dried shrimp, while on the side are dan ping egg pancakes filled with cheese and ham, as well as a sticky rice ball.
What’s interesting is the featured country breakfast that changes every two months. For June through July 2023, the classic Malaysian breakfast nasi lemak takes the spotlight. This hearty, spicy dish is made up of rice cooked with coconut milk and pandan leaves paired with a host of condiments: peanuts, crispy anchovies, hard-boiled egg, cucumber slices and the most important of all, a rich chilli paste known as sambal, and rendang, a dry curry-like stew where chicken is simmered down with coconut milk and spices.
All these are served on a banana leaf for that extra point of authenticity. For the full Malaysian experience, you can finish your meal with a palm sugar-sweetened tapioca dessert (sago gula melaka) and pulled milk tea (teh tarik).
As a complement to the culinary introduction, the music in the café is based on the country in focus while the website has a blog with details explaining the dish (in Japanese). World Breakfast Allday also has branches in Ginza and Kichijoji.
