Even if you’re not visiting Japan, you can always shop the collection online.

This winter, Kamawanu is rolling out a range of classic seasonal motifs alongside fresh new designs. Here are some of our favourite picks and tips on how to weave the cloths into your holiday routine.

Christmas – Quilted snow pattern, ¥1,430

This new Christmas-themed pattern is perfect for the holidays and incredibly versatile. Inspired by snow motifs often seen on textiles and quilts, it works beautifully as a table runner for festive settings – and also makes a charming, eco-friendly way to wrap gifts under the Christmas tree.

Christmas – Christmas Nippon blue, ¥1,760

Ever wonder what it would look like if Santa visited Japan? This beautiful tenugui imagines just that, with Father Christmas and his reindeer flying over the iconic Mt Fuji. To show off the full design, it works perfectly as décor – either framed or hung using Kamawanu’s special wooden hangers.

Winter – Oden komon, ¥1,430

A Japanese winter classic, oden is a comforting dish consisting of ingredients simmered in a warm, savoury broth. This playful tenugui features must-try pieces like daikon radish, chikuwa fish cakes, mochi kinchaku, konjac jelly and more. It’s perfect for use as an apron or pot holder – or just for hanging in your kitchen as a cute dish towel.

New Year’s greeting – Ozoni, ¥1,760

This fun pattern showcases ozoni, a traditional Japanese New Year's dish made with grilled mochi served in a simple broth. The graphic design, featuring just three colours – black, white and red – looks striking and works beautifully framed to showcase the full print. Since ozoni is traditionally enjoyed at the start of the year, this tenugui is perfect to display from early January.

Zodiac – Haniwa horse, ¥1,430

Another new winter pattern celebrates the upcoming 2026 zodiac sign – the horse. What makes this design special is its depiction of haniwa horses, or ancient terracotta figures from the Kofun period. Horses are said to bring good fortune, making this tenugui a perfect gift for the new year or for anyone born in the Year of the Horse.
