Time Out says

Marked twice during the summer, the Day of the Ox (Ushi no Hi) in Japan is traditionally a time to eat stamina-inducing foods such as eel – but there's no reason you couldn't just devour a load of ice cream instead. Perhaps mindful of this, Ben & Jerry's is marking the occasion by offering a complimentary small serving today to anyone wearing a cowprint design who uses the phrase 'doyou no ushi no hi' (literally, Midsummer Day of the Ox).
