Kichijoji's transformation from a subculture mecca and hipster hangout into a fully gentrified and commercialised suburban hub reached another milestone with the April 2014 opening of this glittery shopping mall, located on top of the Keio Inokashira line station. The 10-floor Kirarina building houses a total of 98 shops and restaurants, with most of them catering mainly to relatively well-off thirty-somethings. The basement is home to a full-on 'depa-chika' food floor, while shops like Beams, Laura Ashley, Urban Research, Oriental Traffic and Fredy & Gloster can be found on floors two to six. Craft giant Yuzawaya occupies the top two storeys. If staring at passing-by JR trains is your thing, check out the third-floor Starbucks with its window seats.
