Run by long-established umbrella manufacturer Shibata, Sun is a bespoke umbrella specialist in Ningyocho. It allows you to customise your own umbrella, where you choose every component from the frame, handle and shape to the colour of the shaft as well as the fabric and accessories such as lace.
Consultation and the order process may take up to two hours, so you’ll need to make a reservation in advance before visiting the store (03 3666 0345, online, or e-mail sun@shibata-kemie.co.jp). The cheapest bespoke umbrella starts at ¥12,000, while a dual-purpose umbrella with lace ornaments starts at ¥25,000. Note that the craftsmen will need two months to complete your order.
