Time Out says

In case you don't remember, Drumline was a 2002 movie in which Nick Cannon (today better known as Mariah Carey's husband) played a brash young tyke who was nifty with a snare. While the film itself has been long since forgotten, it did shed a welcome spotlight on the marching band tradition of America's historically black colleges and universities (HCBUs). One thing led to another, and now we've got Drumline Live, a percussive extravaganza with more than a passing resemblance to the Emmy-winning Blast!. The two-hour show sees a veritable armada of musicians – all students or recent graduates of HCBUs – romp through a set that runs from African drumming to Stevie Wonder and the Supremes.
