Continuing its 50-year history as a hall of culture, Kyoto Kaikan has been reborn as Rohm Theatre Kyoto, a new performing arts venue aspiring to be a hub for creating and sharing arts and culture and contributing to the development of the city of Kyoto. Their main hall seats 2,000 people, hosting international, large-scale performances. The South Hall is for more intimate performances, and the 200-seater North Hall for much smaller events or rehearsals. The surrounding area offers a bookstore, cafés and restaurants.
