Time Out says

Established in 1857, this is the oldest and most historic entertainment hall in Tokyo. Although the interior of the building has been modernised, Suzumoto Engeijo remains a driving force in entertainment for the people. The entertainment here includes rakugo storytelling, comedy, acrobatics, paper cutting, magic, impersonations, spinning tricks, ballads and folk songs, with the performances changing every ten days. With the recent rakugo boom the audience is made up of many young people. Unlike plays and other performances, the audience can watch the shows while enjoying food and drinks such as lunch box meals, sweets and beer.
