Candle Night at Tokyo Midtown

Tokyo Midtown puts its garden to some interesting uses, as anyone who saw last year's trippy Christmas illuminations can attest. But this is just plain odd. The third annual Candle Night makes last year's giant heart-shaped display seem downright sophisticated in comparison. This time around, 2,500 candles will be arranged in the shape of a giant smiley face – a rather over-literal take on Midtown's post-3/11 'Smile for Japan' campaign. Hey, whatever cheers people up. We'd recommend loading your iPod with vintage acid house beforehand to get the full effect.
