Head to Yoyogi Park’s Event Square this Valentine’s Day for a free drone show marking the launch of a brand-new festival by technology company Digital Garage. Built around the theme of ‘technology × culture × the city’, the DG New Context Festival explores how innovative technologies can be meaningfully implemented in society, placing real-world ‘context’ and urban space at the heart of the experience.
One of the festival’s highlights is a large-scale drone show that symbolises the intersection of technology and urban expression. Held in collaboration with the Shibuya-wide initiative Dig Shibuya, the show is scheduled to take place above Yoyogi Park on the evening of Saturday February 14.
The festival also doubles as the launch of Digital Garage’s new creative label, Studio Garage, and features a lively daytime music programme featuring bilingual rapper Miyachi, alternative pop duo Jan and Naomi, piano-driven band Ryu Matsuyama and more. Beyond music, the programme blends urban sports and dance – such as breaking, BMX and parkour – with Japanese elements such as traditional wagakki instruments. With live performances, innovative visuals and people-to-people engagement, the festival offers a glimpse into the future of Japanese culture in the AI era.
