The main parade of the Fukagawa Hachiman Festival, in which an enormous mikoshi (portable shrine) is carried through the streets, only takes place every three years. 2011 was due to be the big one, but in the wake of March 11 the organisers of the festival decided to postpone things until next year. A vastly slimmed-down version of the event will take place this year, but you'll have to wait until 2012 for the really fun part.
