Ginza Mitsukoshi New Year's Festival

Ginza's Mitsukoshi marks the start of 2016 with a plentiful programme of events and discounts over the first weekend of the year. Take the opportunity to taste zoni, a traditional mochi soup, available in regional varieties representing Hokkaido, Kyoto and a number of other areas, and catch an energetic taiko performance by the Tawoo drumming group. If you've got some extra change lying around, consider spending it on one of Mitsukoshi's 'lucky bags' (fukubukuro), which are always among the most extravagant in the city.
