The popular first festival of the year at Nishiarai's great temple is held on the en-nichi (day dedicated to a specific deity) of Kukai, the founder of Shingon Buddhism in Japan. Around 50 stalls will be put up on the temple grounds, selling Daruma dolls, snacks, clothing, and religious paraphernalia.
