Kichijoji is celebrating the coming of autumn with a festival featuring a parade of portable mikoshi shrines and street food. While the festival is held across two days on September 9 and 10, the main event is set for Sunday.
At around 2pm, 11 mikoshi from different districts will go on a procession around the neighbourhood as they head towards Musashino Hachimangu Shrine. Look closely and you’ll notice that each mikoshi has its own design and a distinctive chant.
Saturday however, will have a children’s mikoshi parade at 3pm, which leaves from Heiwa-dori street just outside Kichijoji Station’s North exit. Both days are expected to have traditional festival stalls with street food and family-friendly activities.
