Head to this large-scale autumn festival at Machida’s Shikisai no Mori park, taking place until November 30. Aside from the beautiful autumn foliage, you can enjoy calligraphy and music performances by local students on weekends and holidays, and shop at a farmer’s market on November 19 and 20. There are also some workshops taking place – you can create a reusable shopping bag out of old rice bags (¥1,500) on November 5 or make your own lantern (¥1,100) on November 19 (reservations required).
The autumn leaves will be beautifully lit up from November 15 with a projection mapping show taking place at the former Nagai residence, a national important cultural property, between November 22 and 27. On weekends, make sure to pick up a baked sweet potato or a cup of hot wine or yuzu citrus-flavoured sake to stay warm.
