You can get up close with Japan's biggest robot at the Miraikan this weekend, as Tokyo hosts its first official edition of DIY tech event Maker Faire. Suidobashi Heavy Industries' Kuratas, a 13-foot borg that's controllable by smart phone, is just one of the more eye-catching attractions in an event that showcases the work of budding amateur scientists, craftspeople and hackers. Also keep an eye out for exhibitors including Minokura, whose Smart Trashbox moves to catch litter as you throw it, and Radiation Watch, who've figured out a way to turn your phone into a pocket geiger counter.
