Tokyo's annual Christmas illuminations feel a little hard to justify in the Year of Setsuden, but Minna no Illumi has found a novel solution. The 156,000 LED lights used in the display – which will be brightening up a stretch of Meguro River near Gotanda Station until December 25 – are all powered by locally generated electricity, using biodiesel generated from waste oil from local homes and restaurants.
