A festival honouring the three men who founded Asakusa’s great Sensoji Temple almost 1,400 years ago, the annual Honzon Jigen-e sees three portable mikoshi shrines enshrining them transported from neighbouring Asakusa Shrine to the temple’s main hall and back again. As the festival falls on a weekend in 2018, the mikoshi will also be taken out on a tour of the neighbourhood before being returned to the shrine. Traditional dragon dances (at 11.30am, 2pm and 3.30pm) accompany the action.
