Nakano's Central Park becomes the scene of a veritable spice feast in the form of all things Sichuan, as chefs from 16 Tokyo restaurants specialising in that mouth-numbing style of Chinese cuisine serve up their signature dishes over the first Sunday of April. Akasaka's Szechwan Restaurant – the late founder of which was called 'the father of Sichuan cuisine in Japan' – will be dishing up mapo dofu, the famous Piaoxiang Azabu-Juban will have Sichuan spring rolls, and a holder of the 'best chef in China' title will be making an appearance with steamed oysters. Dishes are set to cost between ¥500 and ¥1,000, so you'll hardly be breaking the bank either. And if all that food gets you inspired to try your hand at it at home, know that there will also be stalls selling Chinese ingredients on the day.
