Takanawa Gateway

Leading to the grand opening of the Takanawa Gateway City complex will celebrate its grand opening on March 28, and various events are taking place to hype up the completion of this long-awaited city within the city. One of the highlights is an immersive, experimental projection mapping event taking place every evening from February 5 to 11. While the timetables have yet to be released, you can expect screenings of two works that reflect the history of Takanawa. One of them is titled ‘Time Voyage - A Light Path of Memories’ and takes viewers on a journey back to around 150 years ago, when Japan’s first railway line ran through Takanawa. Utilising the latest immersive image-processing technologies and synchronised water fountains, the show promises a ‘three-dimensional spatial experience’. The second screening, ‘The Takanawa’, is an ode to the contemporary neighbourhood, blending its everyday ambient sounds with music, lights and visuals to bring the area to life in three dimensions. The daily screenings are expected to be accompanied by food trucks selling festival grub. Check the event website for the latest updates.
