If you’re a fan of umeshu, a sweet and tangy Japanese liqueur made by infusing fresh ume (Japanese plums) in shochu or sake for at least six months, then you’ll want to mark your calendar for this festival. You’ll be able to sample over 140 types of umeshu from all over Japan, among them the winners of the 2024 National Umeshu Tasting competition, and compare varieties to find your favourites. Aside from regular umeshu, you’ll discover unfiltered varieties, aged for several years, based on another spirit like gin or brandy, and even a refreshing combination of umeshu-beer blend.
Tickets cost ¥1,600 for 16 tokens or ¥3,000 for 32 tokens and can be purchased in advance or at the door. These physical umesen tokens can be used to redeem drinks and food at the venue. For a better value, purchase the tickets online for an extra 2-4 tokens.
