"On Shoulders"

This year, The Curatorial Incubator, v.13 – The Job of Life asked emerging curators to consider the changing environment we call “work”. Banal or exhilarating, fully public or deeply domestic, work is all around us. Each has done extensive research in the Vtape holdings and beyond to assemble their challenging programs of media artworks.

We continue this year’s Curatorial Incubator with Erin MacMillan’s consideration of the unpaid work that must be performed outside of the formal economy in order to sustain and reproduce our selves.

"Maintenance… can take much of our energies, but the persistence and creativity of our practices of self-sustenance can fuel our resolve as we strive to grasp and transform the relationship between maintenance and freedom."
-Erin MacMillan

THE PROGRAM: Martha Rosler’s "Semiotics of the Kitchen" (1975), Corinna Schnitt’s "Hello Ms. Schnitt/Schönen, guten Tag" (1995). John Greyson’s "Motet for Zackie" (2003). Marion McMahon’s "Nursing History" (1986). Rehab Nazzal’s "A Night at Home" (2009). Dana Claxton’s "Hope" (2007).
