TIFF says
Join us on Saturday October 1st as our good friend (and special-effects wizard) Douglas Trumbull returns to TIFF Bell Lightbox to present his directorial debut, Silent Running.

Douglas Trumbull is a visionary master of special effects, whose work changed the industry standard. He designed the groundbreaking special effects for such science fiction classics as 2001: A Space Odyssey (68), which won the Academy Award for best photographic effects, Close Encounters of the Third Kind (77), and Blade Runner (82). He also wrote and directed Silent Running (72), Brainstorm (83), and Back To The Future – The Ride (90). Trumbull received the prestigious Gordon E. Sawyer Academy Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2012.

Silent Running is an offbeat sci-fi tale about an eccentric botanist (Bruce Dern) whose rogue attempt to save some of Earth's last surviving plant life takes him on a dangerous voyage through the rings of Saturn.
