Comrades and lovers, Amer and Raghda met in a Syrian prison cell 15 years before filming for this award-winning documentary began. When director Sean McAllister first meets the couple and their family, Raghda finds herself imprisoned once again, leaving Amer to look after their children on his own. As the Arab Spring — a democratic uprising — sweeps the region, the family’s fate shifts irrevocably.

Filmed over five years, A Syrian Love Story charts the couple’s incredible odyssey to political freedom, illustrating their journey of hope, dreams, and despair — about the revolution, their homeland, and their family’s future.
