The Royal Cinema - Toronto says
HONG KONG'S DELIRIOUS FUSION OF THE TERMINATOR & STREET FIGHTER 2!

FUTURE COPS (1993)
DIR. WONG JING
CAST: Andy Lau, Aaron Kwok, Jackie Cheung, Simon Yam, Ekin Cheng, Chingmy Yau & Dickey Cheung

"The best adaptation of Street Fighter to date.... Like taking the Hong Kong equivalent of the cast of Ocean's 11 and placing them in SUPER SMASH BROTHERS!" - TarsTarkas.net

"In terms of visual dementia, Future Cops is utterly satisfying." - Richard Scheib, Moria.co.nz

A team of hoverboard riding, laser-blasting Future Cops (comprised of three of the four Heavenly Kings of Canto-Pop Andy Lau, Jackie Cheung & Aaron Kwok) are sent to the past to protect a clutzy high school student (the memorably named Dicky Leung) who will soon grow up to be a formidable Future Judge. It’s a wild tale in which faces get smashed, hearts get broken and it VERY unofficially features a bunch of video game characters.

If you have ever wished The Terminator was about Street Fighter 2 characters in a high school comedy, then you're probably writer/director Wong Jing, guilty of some of the most entertainingly trashy Hong Kong films to ever attack an audience’s eyeballs, and host to that special brand of eccentric madness that we at The Laser Blast Film Society love to celebrate. The story goes that Mr. Wong sought the rights to adapt the popular videogame Street Fighter 2, was denied (probably because Campcom read his script), and then went ahead with his production anyway, slyly changing all the characters names (Guile becomes Broom-Man, Honda becomes Toyata), but preserving their costumes and even their patented special moves!

The end result ricochetes between nonsense comedy in the vein of Stephen Chow (complete with an easter-egg cameo from the comedian), an insane wire-fu beat ‘em up and even a romantic comedy subplot that features a meet-cute set in the world of the Super Mario Bros. Bless you Wong Jing; you crazy, crazy man. (Justin Decloux)

Tickets are $10! ($8 if you snap them up online!)
