The Royal Cinema - Toronto says
After the film WESTWORLD in 1973, Brynner’s Gunslinger returned three years later, albeit briefly and bafflingly, for the considerably dumber but schlocky fun of FUTUREWORLD. Crichton and MGM were both out, replaced by journeyman director Richard T. Heffron and b-movie maestro Samuel Z. Arkoff's American-International Pictures. Whereas Crichton had notably withheld the cause of Delos' downfall (for all its technobabble and behind-the-scenes drama outlining the operation of the park, no explanation is presented for the androids' homicial behaviour -- it just happens), FUTUREWORLD takes the opposite tack. Informed by the emerging paranoia of films like THE PARALLAX VIEW and others, FUTUREWORLD follows romantically-entangled reporters Chuck Browning and Tracy Ballard (played, respectively, by counterculture icon Peter Fonda and Blythe Danner, Gwyneth Paltrow's mom) as they try to unearth a sinister international conspiracy at the newly reconstructed Delos and its titular new flagship attraction.

While you anxiously await the next season of HBO's smart and sexy revival series, join us at The Royal for a one-of-a-kind retrobotic double bill with WESTWORLD at 7 pm, and FUTUREWORLD at 9 pm!
