With an emphasis on implications for transatlantic security, this roundtable will discuss the securitization of diaspora communities in Europe.
Questions to be addressed include whether and to what extent diasporas import conflict from home to host countries; whether they threaten security and stability in countries of settlement; and how securitization processes affect diaspora relations with the state, notions of belonging, and trajectories of state policy.

Speaking at the Event:
Octavius Pinkard is a PhD Researcher at the University of Kent (Canterbury), where his work focuses on the development and projection of identities and interests among Lebanese diaspora communities in Senegal, the United States, and the European Union.
He has served as a consultant for civil-military relations at the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia, and has been active as an consultant for organizations in Pakistan, Belgium, Lebanon, Jordan, and the United States.
