According to a wildlife photographer, these are the 10 best places in the UK to snap a pic at golden hour

There’s something about watching the sky brighten and the colours shift from red to orange to yellow that never gets old. An early morning atop a hill listening to the birds chirp and watching the sun ascend above the curve of the earth is always a morning well spent. While we’re on the topic, a new ranking has named the 10 best spots in the UK to catch a glimpse of sunrise and sunset.
Photo printing company Cewe teamed up with travel and wildlife photographer Bella Falk to reveal the top 10 destinations in the country to snap a pic of the sun rising and setting. Because, well, if you’re going to set your alarm that early, you’d better get a couple piccys for the ’Gram to prove it.
Topping the list was Edinburgh landmark Arthur’s Seat. Formed more than 350 million years ago, this ancient extinct volcano is the highest point in Holyrood Park, rising 251 meters above the sleepy streets below. Its peak, a 30-90 minute ascent depending on your route, offers panoramic views of the Scottish capital, making it perfect for catching the sunrise in the east or pitching up westwards to watch the sun set.
Second place went to Southwold Pier in Suffolk. Time Out has just named the seaside town’s sandy dunes among the best in the UK, and the jaw-dropping views at golden hour are yet another reason to give it a visit.
As well as ranking the top 10 sunrise and sunset spots in the UK, Cewe also named its top global viewpoints. Paphos, Cyprus pipped the competition to be crowned the world number one. Its west-facing coastline and dramatic scenery – featuring the iconic EDRO III shipwreck – make it especially perfect for sunsets.
