In extraordinarily sad news for dads up and down Britain, Brewdog has announced that 10 of the brand’s UK pubs will shut this weekend. Worse yet, Brewdog’s flagship boozer – and first ever bar – in Aberdeen is among those slated for closure.
The doomed Brewdogs will start shutting as soon as this Friday (July 25). Two of them are in Scotland and eight are in England, and several of the closures are signature Brewdog sites. They include the aforementioned Aberdeen outpost and the Brewdog bar in Camden, which was the chain’s first opening in London. Three Brewdogs in the capital are set to shutter this weekend.
Brewdog cited an ‘extremely difficult’ environment for bars and restaurants as the reason for the closures, with chief executive James Taylor saying: ‘Following much consideration, we have sadly concluded that there is no realistic prospect of making these venues commercially viable.’
Some Brewdog staff claimed they were given just three days’ notice, and Brewdog has not revealed how many staff will lose their jobs.
A spokesperson said: ‘We are working hard to minimise the impact on our people, and we expect to redeploy many affected team members across the Brewdog network.’
