The UK has plenty of swanky, posh hotels – and plenty of the very swankiest and poshest ones are boutiques. Offering a bit more character and individuality that your typical massive multinational chain, these boutiques range from hip city lodgings to artfully designed countryside cottages. Loads of them look so appealing that choosing one to stay in can be pretty tough.
Out to guide you towards this country’s very finest boutique hotels is the aptly-named Top 50 Boutique Hotels awards. Held every year, the competition’s winners are decided by votes from more than 100 key figures in the hospitality industry. The results are all about celebrating the most distinctive and diverse places to stay in the UK.
Claiming the top spot as the best boutique hotel in the UK in 2023 was The Newt in Bruton (Somerset). Don’t be fooled by its name, this picturesque reconstructed classical villa has made a name for itself as the great garden escape. Sitting on acres of woodland and cider orchards, the hotel features farmyard rooms, seasonal workshops and a working bathhouse for the perfect wind-down in a hammam.

Second place went to the Lime Wood Hotel in Lyndhurst, which took home the grand prize last year. The hotel is followed by the Gilpin Hotel and Lake House in Windermere in third place.
