From fantastic festive light displays to traditional Crimbo markets, the UK really knows how to do Christmas. And it’s the ideal time of year to go on a road trip, too, with travellers able to shelter from the cold in a car but still go out and see British towns at their prettiest.
Up for a festive road trip but don’t know where to start? A new study by car insurance company ALA Insurance ranked the best Christmas road trip destinations in the UK by looking at a bunch of factors including stress-free road routes, the probability of rain, and the amount of festive lights and markets.
The best destination to visit this Christmas was named as Windsor. Featuring a festive ice rink, winter horse-drawn carriage rides and a 20-foot-high Christmas tree in Windsor Castle, the Berkshire town sounds like the place to be for maximum Christmas vibes. Plus, visitors don’t have to worry about the gloomy British weather as Windsor apparently boasts comparatively less rain than other places during the festive season.
Second place went to Shrewsbury in Shropshire, with its festive markets in the town square and Christmas tree festival, followed by the seaside town of Scarborough in Yorkshire.
