The UK’s train stations with the most unreliable services have officially been named and shamed. The Train Station Report by ePowerTrucks took a look at the percentage of delayed or disrupted services over the past six months at the 100 stations with the highest passenger numbers (i.e. the busiest).
The company, which provides transport solutions for rail and airport wheelchair assistance, said: ‘Railway strikes have cast a long shadow over the nation’s transportation network.
‘The findings of the Train Station Report serve as a wake-up call for policymakers and transportation authorities to address the root causes of delays and implement measures to improve the reliability of train services.’
City Thameslink in London emerged as the rail hub with the country’s highest percentage of train delays or cancellations (you can read more about that here). For the rest of the UK, Leicester train station was exposed has having the most disruption with 68 percent of its trains either delayed or cancelled.
Third place on the list was East Croydon, thanks to disruption on 67 percent of trains, while fourth place went to Earlsfield (also in London). Rounding out the top five worst stations for delays was Manchester Oxford Road, which saw 66 percent of train journeys behind schedule or axed.
At the other end of list of the 100 busiest stations in the UK, the research found that Stansted suffered the least delays, with just 18 percent of services running late. And even though London has some of the worst stations, it also can also boast some having some more reliable. Moorgate station and Liverpool Street station only had 20 and 21 percent of delayed trains respectively.
