There are roughly 45,000 pubs across the UK – Greene King runs about 2,600 of them (alongside hotels and restaurants). Wherever you are in the country, its boozers are pretty much unavoidable. And this week the pub giant is introducing its new brand, Cornerstone Pubs

But that doesn’t mean more Greene King pubs will be popping up. Cornerstone Pubs will actually make use of existing Greene King sites and bring its carvery venues and value-led venues under one umbrella. The new venture will centre around community-focused pubs and local venues, and has promised ‘everyday great value’. It’ll officially launch on Wednesday August 26.

For now, the pubs will keep their original staff, management team and branding. But over time, there may be changes to the venues’ menus and entertainment offerings. That’s pretty much all we know at the moment. Right now, Greene King’s carvery offering includes 14-hour slow-cooked meats, veggie pies, roasted potatoes and pigs-in-blankets.

The new brand joins the group’s other concepts like Chef & Brewer, which centres on traditional countryside pubs, the meat-focussed Flaming Grill and the kid-friendly Wacky Warehouse. It comes shortly after Greene King identified 65 pubs that could be sold as part of a strategy to reduce its pub estate.
