The pub group is launching new venues in airports, old hotels and a student union

You can never have too many JD Wetherspoon pubs. There are more than 800 Wetherspoons in operation across the UK, selling cheap pints and hearty fry-ups in old cinemas, former magistrate courts and even a retired opera house. What’s a few more, eh?
There are 11 new Wetherspoons pubs coming to the UK over the next few months. Three of the new ’Spoons are in London, with two lined up for the city centre and one opening at Heathrow Terminal 2. The rest are spread across the likes of Manchester, Southampton, Edinburgh and St Andrews.
Manchester Airport will get its first ever Wetherspoons pub at the start of September. Located in Terminal 2, it’ll be named the Belle Vue, after the city’s historic Victorian show ground that once housed a pub, zoological gardens, and stadium with a greyhound racing and speedway track. It will be the last major food and drink venue to launch at the hub as part of its enormous £1.3bn transformation.
Another new ’Spoons of note will open at the University of St Andrews just in time for the return of students. The Red Gown is the brand’s first Scottish university franchise and will launch on September 4 in spite of student pushback. Elsewhere in Scotland, ’Spoons will take over a former Revolution bar on Chambers Street in Edinburgh and open on November 3.
ICYMI: This is the best pub in the UK right now.
Plus: Next has opened its biggest ever store just one hour from London.
