Before long, British summertime will be over. There are only a few weeks left of both the season and the school holidays, so don’t go wasting them. You could spend a weekend at one of the great music festivals still to come, you could book one more trip abroad, or you could take up a very rare opportunity to camp on the grounds of one of Britain’s most beautiful country estates.
Holkham Estate on the stunning Norfolk coast is hosting a pop-up camping experience for those hoping to squeeze the last weeks of enjoyment out of the summer sun. The estate’s special campsite is open for business from August 10 to September 7. You can come in your motorhome, bring a caravan or book a tent pitch.
Campers will have access to 24-hour staff, toilet and shower blocks, wi-fi and outdoor washing areas. There will also be a bunch of local suppliers serving food from trucks on-site, so you don’t have to worry about what to cook for dinner over a teeny gas stove.
Each booking at Camp Holkham also includes a load of discounts for experiences on the estate. You get 10 percent off admission to Holkham Hall and the Walled Garden, 10 percent off cycle hire and the high ropes and 15 percent off midweek lunches.
On top of all of that, you’ll be a stone’s throw from the various events that Holkham Estate is hosting in the last month of summer, from street food festival Feast in the Park to bat treks to an outdoor theatre production of Pinocchio. Pitches for up to two adults and two children start from £30 per night but there’s a discount if you stay for three nights or more.
