What’s your chippy order? Are you a fish supper-ultra? Fan of a deep-fried pizza? Or just love a good, properly fluffy bag of chips? Whatever it is, you definitely have a favourite dish, and are probably pretty loyal to your local, but if you’re open to trying somewhere different, the nominees for the 2025 National Fish & Chip Awards have just been announced, and they’re great as ever.
Last year, the coveted ‘Takeaway of the Year’ title went to the Shipdeck in Caerphilly, Wales, and the Shipdeck’s team was sent on a trip to Norway to catch some top quality fish. This year, 40 establishments are nominated for the prize up and down the country, and each spot nominated is worth checking out, even if only one can win.
According to the organisers of the awards: ‘There’s a lot to [running a successful chippie] and each awards season we see greater depths of talent, expertise and business acumen.’ In other words, to get to this point each of these chip shops has to be doing something very, very right.
