There are few things us Brits love more than emerging bleary-eyed from the airport security queue and kicking off a holiday with an early morning pint-and-brekkie combo. And it’s a truth universally acknowledged that no one does it better than Wetherspoons.

For years, the budget boozer has been serving up affordable ales and unfussy nosh across 10 airports in the UK and Spain. Now, in good news summer holiday makers, JD Wetherspoon will open a £3.5m pub in Heathrow Airport Terminal 2 next week, as part of its mega airport expansion.

The new Wetherspoons, called The Sir Frank Whittle, will launch on Tuesday July 21. The joint is aptly named after the former RAF officer who is renowned for having co-created the turbojet engine. Located just after security, The Sir Frank Whittle will be open from 4am until 11pm seven days a week, making it the perfect pre-flight pit stop.

Like Spoons’ other airport pubs, The Sir Frank Little will serve up real ales, traditional ciders and Wetherspoons staples, including a full English breakfast, pancakes, iconic gourmet burgers and fish and chips.

The opening comes ahead of plans to open three new airport Wetherspoon pubs over the next six months, starting with Manchester Airport in September. Two more pubs are set to open in Barcelona Airport, one in January 2027 and another in November 2027.

Currently, you can find Wetherspoons in Heathrow’s Terminal 4 (named Star Light), and Terminal 5 (called The Crown Rivers). It also has three pubs in Gatwick airport (one in the North Terminal and two in the South Terminal) and another in Stansted Airport. In fact, Stansted’s The Windmill apparently ranks as one of the best airport restaurants in the world. Outside London, you can find Wetherspoons in Manchester Airport, Birmingham Airport and Edinburgh Airport.

Spoons has recently expanded onto the continent, opening a new pub in Spain’s Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport – the gateway for British tourists flying to Benidorm. We’re sure business is booming.
