Remember that huge, ten-metre tall mechanical bull that was the centre of attention during the opening ceremony of the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games? Well, plans have now been made to give the piece – known as the Raging Bull – a permanent home in England’s second city.

Made using materials from Birmingham and the Black Country, the bull was hailed as a highlight of the opening ceremony, where it was dragged into the stadium by 50 women representing female chain makers of the Industrial Revolution.

After its moment in the spotlight, it was moved to Centenary Square in the city centre and seen by around four million visitors. Following a stint hiding in a car park while plans were made to find it a permanent home, Network Rail have now announced that the bull will be installed in the atrium of Birmingham New Street station this summer.

With a weekly footfall of 800,000 travellers and passers-through, West Midlands mayor Andy Street said this location would mean the bull can be ‘enjoyed, marvelled at and photographed by local people and visitors alike in the months and years ahead’. So next time you’re taking a trip to Brum, keep an eye out for this metal masterpiece – it will be hard to miss.
