From seeing the Bayeux Tapestry to attending the world’s biggest ode to Irish music, these are all the best things you should see and do across the UK this year

So, you’ve seen Stonehenge, you’ve done Edinburgh Fringe, you’ve explored the Lakes, you’ve watched a Shakespeare play in Stratford-upon-Avon, you’ve admired the works of Monet, Van Gogh and Michelangelo in London’s grand museums and you’ve had afternoon tea in Bath. What else could there possibly be left to do in the UK? Well, all of that is only scratching the surface.
The UK is chocka with brilliant exhibitions, stunning scenery, fascinating history and world-leading festivals. There are constantly new attractions opening up and new events launching, and 2026 will be no different. So, Time Out’s network of writers and editors clubbed together to create a roundup of the best new things going on across the UK this year.
Topping the list is the landmark return of the Bayeux Tapestry, the medieval masterpiece depicting the Battle of Hastings. It’ll come back to the UK for the first time in almost a millennium this year and go on display at the British Museum.
That’s not the only exciting thing happening for history lovers. Caerphilly Castle, the largest fortress in Wales, finally reopened back in July following a two-year £8 million renovation. The Great Hall was restored to its former glory and new interactive exhibitions spilling the castle’s juiciest secrets were introduced.
If live music is more your thing, you’re also in for a treat. While the UK’s greatest fest is taking a break, there are plenty of events lined up to make up for it. In 2026, Belfast will host Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, the world’s largest celebration of Irish music; WOMAD festival is coming back to Wiltshire after a year off; there’ll be a brand new festival with headliners like Pitbull and Kesha in Leeds; and a plethora of emerging Welsh musicians and DJs will be in Pembrokeshire marking 850 years of the National Eisteddfod. Who needs Glastonbury?
More stuff that we’re most looking forward to over the next 12 months include the opportunity to take on Hang Tough and Eliminator at Birmingham NEC’s Gladiators Experience, the arrival of a live-action historical theme park, the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and celebrations surrounding the 100th birthday of Winnie the Pooh.
