Who doesn’t love a good road trip? If you’ve got cracking views, sufficient snacks and an aux cord that works, there’s not a much a better feeling than being out on the open road. Just make sure to leave the back seat drivers at home.
Now, car insurance company Saga Car Insurance has analysed more 73,000 comments on Reddit to come up with the 10 best road trips in Europe. Brits will be pleased to know that out of the top 10, three are right here in the UK.
Using a unique scoring system, Saga analysed total mentions, total comment likes, and the average sentiment of comments to come up with a score out of 100 for each of the destinations.
Taking the top spot was Iceland’s Stokksnes Peninsula, for its dramatic volcanic sand beaches and mountains. But in a close second was the NC500 in Scotland. The NC500, an 830km road through the Highlands, where you will speed past sights like Dunnet Head and the Applecross Peninsula, scored an impressive 90 points in the ranking.
Also clinching a space in the top 10 was the A303 in Wiltshire. It might not sound glamorous, but this is the road that goes directly past Stonehenge. The rocky marvel came in fifth place, scoring 78 out of 100
In eighth place and also in the UK was the Lake District, which scored 74 points. Must-see places on this road trip include the Castlerigg Stone Circle, Lake Windermere and the Scafell Pike.
