It’s needless to say that airports can be really, really stressful places. Often an unavoidable step of your journey, at an airport all you really want is to plonk yourself somewhere to wait for your flight and ponder if 5:30am is too early for a glass of wine (it’s not).

However, delays, long queues and pricey transport at an airport don’t make for a fun start or end of a holiday. Hence why it’s great news that StressFreeCarRental.com have conducted extensive research to determine Europe’s least stressful airports. And, excitingly, one of them is in the UK

To determine the calmest places to start a trip, the holiday car rental company took into account things like passenger reviews, the airport’s distance from a city centre and its car parking charges, as well as its total number of restaurants and number of yearly passengers.

One of the best-placing aviation hubs in the list was none other than Newcastle Airport, which was named Europe’s sixth least stressful. Newcastle placed so well partly due to its proximity to the centre of the Toon, but also because its passenger capacity is on the smaller side of most major UK hubs (just over four million passengers in 2022). It was also recently ranked the fourth best airport in the UK

These are the ten least stressful airports in Europe, according to StressFreeCarRental.com.

  1. Billund Airport, Denmark
  2. Luxembourg Airport, Luxembourg
  3. Vilnius International Airport, Lithuania
  4. Menorca Airport, Spain
  5. Hanover Airport, Germany
  6. Newcastle Airport, UK
  7. Corfu International Airport, Greece
  8. Trondheim Airport, Norway
  9. Turin Airport, Italy
  10. Cagliari Elmas Airport, Italy

So, if you’re after a stress free flying experience, now you know where to head!

Did you see Eurostar passengers will soon be able to skip passport checks?
